Trends and Style Tips Spring/Summer 2012
-
Texture – be it lace, broderie anglaise, or sheers fabric texture dominates this season. Influenced in no small part by Kate’s stunning royal lace wedding dress from Alexander McQueen, any fabric with a handcrafted or textured feel is desirable. See La Crème’s stunning coffee coloured lace combo dress from John Charles or their striking black over ivory, lace sheath dress with dramatic bow. If sheers are more to your taste, see Kate Cooper’s hot pink silk organza coat worn over a print dress.

Delicious Candy Colours are the colour palette of S/S 2012. Sweet, feminine and oh so lady-like these pretty pastels have a genteel aura while demure styling details emphasise the retro influence that inspired them. Think Mad Men meets Pan Am meets Audrey Hepburn. At La Crème, the look is best epitomised by Irish designer Heidi Higgins who’s delightful lady-like dresses carry more than a hint of ’50s silver screen heroines. Tiffany blue, burnt orange and primrose yellow are the tempting hues in her S/S range.

Prints – S/S 2012 is the season of the statement print – forget restraint and under-statement , the bigger and bolder the better is the message for this season. All-over print, clashing prints, florals, fauna, and animal skins - are all defining the look sometimes as a collage effect in the one garment. At La Crème, print is one of the hottest trends of the season and features prominently in ranges from Joseph Ribkoff, Libra, Tuzzi and Roberto Naldi.

Peplums – A wave of peplums was seen on the S/S 2012 catwalks as part of the strong retro influence of the season. At La Crème, Heidi Higgin’s darling dresses feature pretty peplums that add just the right degree of flirtatious femininity to their streamlined silhouette. Mettallics/Irridescence – Shimmer has always been a staple for A/W but this season it’s featuring for S/S too. A little subtle shimmer or shine can lift an outfit out of the ordinairy - at La Crème we recommend metallic shoes and bags to add some extra pizazz to a look. Or for the Mother of the Bride or Groom there are some stunning iridescent jacquards from John Charles that will literally make you shine on your big day.
-
Aquatic hues – Everything aquatic is the buzz for S/S 2012 – think of a palette of cerulean blues, aqua greens and turquoises highlighted with solid whites. At La Crème the oceanic theme has been showcased by Ribkoff in their vivid blue dresses, by Roberto Naldi in their turquoise print dresses and by Linea Raffaelli in their special occasion ensembles. Continuing the sea-inspired theme, pearls were at the centre of the Chanel show and at La Crème we have a stunning array of pearl jewellery from Pat Whyte to allow you to buy into the trend simply and effectively.
